Memphis College of Art presents the 2016 Biennial Alumni Exhibition, on view May 20–Aug. 6 in the Hyde Gallery of the Nesin Graduate School, 477 S. Main St. A reception will be held Friday, July 29 from 6–9 p.m. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded to select artists at the reception.

The exhibition features work from 28 alumni and former students of the college, in media ranging from sculpture and abstract paintings to installations and video projections. Artists include Sarah Ahmad, Cody Barnhill, Deirdre Daw, Michelle Fair, Shatara Ferguson, Crystal Foss, E. Ashley Fox, Thomas Everett Green, Warren Greene, Dilland Gregory, Bob Guthridge, Jan Hankins, Adam Hawk, Joseph Holsapple, Amy Hutcheson, Jed Jackson, Fidencio Martinez, Peter McMath, Patrick McMillan, Lester Julian Merriweather, Micheline Morgan, Carl E. Moore, Ohm Phanphiroj, Jeanne Seagle, Emma Skees, Katie Benjamin Steed, Alexander Swilley and Olivia Wall.

Mark Scala, chief curator at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts in Nashville, Tenn., curated the exhibition, selecting from over 130 entries. “The selected work tells a story of visual and sometimes moral ambition,” said Scala. “The artists in the show convey their vision with a mastery of their medium that speaks volumes about their training, and about their own diligence in pushing their skills to a new level as artists in the world. As not just a celebration but a self-assessment, the exhibition shows that the Memphis College of Art effectively fulfills its societal role as an agent of creativity. This has a powerful impact in our region and around the world.”

The reception on July 29 is tied to a series of 2016 Alumni Weekend events, designed to encourage alumni to reconnect with former classmates and network with other alumni in Memphis, the region and beyond. For more information about Alumni Weekend, contact Kristen Rambo at krambo@mca.edu.
